You and I are just about on the same page here.
However, I just turned the page you are now baffling over.
Let me ask, Did you removed the old "Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts/mysql-standard-4.0.13.pkg" file
before you did the new install.
If I am not mistaken, this is what cinched it for me.
