No, but if you have control over how the server gets started, you can invoke it with a --defaults-file option to tell it to ignore the standard option files and specify a file of your own choosing.
thank you very much. that's exactly what i've been looking for! i tried grepping for "config file" and "my.cnf" all over the place. you might want to somehow indicate that in the help message. there's no indication that defaults file = my.cnf anywhere.
