Hi toby If I log in to mysql via the command line on the hosting machine it says [EMAIL PROTECTED] ... therefore, stating the obvious :) it doens't think you're connecting from localhost - this may be because of the two NICs but I don't know enough to be sure .....when you connect to the mysql server (when php, apache and mysql are all on the same box) do you connect to 127.0.0.l (loopback address) or do you connect to the IP address of one of the two NICs (e.g. 192.168.y.z)?
