Its not a startup problem, that works fine. What happened was my php application stopped working. This server has multiple databases on it mind you. The other databases were working fine.
So one database stopped working and the application could not connect to it. so I did a 'service mysql restart' and it started working again like magic. I looked in the .err file and it only shows when the mysql server stops and starts. I can't see the file on this machine, but it just seems to be logging starts and stops.
