I am also having this issue I have an 8.10 mstr b/e with mythbuntu using jya repos and two f/e with mythbuntu 9.10 and jya repos. This bug is affecting two different lcd devices in my case a 15c2:ffdc Soundgraph(imon) and a hd44780 Vlsys Mplay device. All machines are current and on /branches/release-0-22-fixes 23565 B/E and F/E's and completely updated Kernels are 2.6.31-19-generic
