FYI MythTV's ./configure does have support for finding libraries in non-standard locations, you just need to put their location in either ld.so.conf or LD_LIBRARY_PATH or DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH or a file included in your ld.so.conf. Basically, what you would need to do to use the library anyway. -- Daniel
