I leave my Myth box running 24/7, so I haven't bothered with configuring
a power-on feature. But I do have an IR wireless keyboard and a
JP1-programmable remote that is now programmed with the keyboards IR
codes. The keyboard IR receiver plugs into the keyboard and mouse PS2
ports. So with something like this, if your BIOS supports
wake-on-keyboard, then it would be trivial. Also, many mobo's support
wakeup on serial I/O -- I haven't tried it but it might only work for a
specific signal like RI (ring indicator) and I don't think you'd get
that from a serial IR interface unless you built it yourself.
I'm a big fan of the IR keyboard method, because it gives you a compact,
full-featured keyboard with mouse functionality for when you need to do
admin or other keyboard work, and with a JP1-capable remote like my OFA
8811urw ($18 at Wal-Mart) and a JP1 cable you can use free software to
setup the remote to send keyboard signals for anything you like.
I have the Lite-On IR keyboard from NewEgg that I believe has since been
discontinued, but the same keyboard is sold under other brand names and
OEM's.
