I think slimserver would be an excellent addition/replacement to mythmusic.  I as well don't know how to link zones of audio through a command line but have done it before from the webpage and it works wonderfully.  It also does a great job at resampling audio on the fly for mobile workstations, computers at work etc...  That also might be a good way to solidfy the playlist creation from client to client.
