I think that I may need to tweak fbset as documented
here:

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/lofiversion/index.php/t377567.html

If you wade through what they're discussing, it's just the framebuffer version of a modeline. What is suggested:

fbset -g 640 440 640 440 32 -t 39721 40 24 52 31 96 2

results in a 640x440 modeline... with a total of 440+52+31+2 = 525
horizontal lines. That's fine, and will be underscanned so it will appear "scanned" on your overscanned TV. What will actually be happening is that mplayer|xine|mythtv|mythvideo will be rendering a 640x480 video onto a 640x440 screen. You will scaling the video... i.e. actual lines are not lines anymore, but an interpolated version of a couple of lines.

I'm not saying what you're doing is necessarily bad... just trying to clear up misinformation often rampant on the list about how to "fix" overscan with modelines. In most cases, you're band-aiding a broken situation.
