Yes, very messy indeed... :( Not to be nosy, but what exactly are you trying to monitor via nrpe on esx? ... There are many ways to skin the same cat in nagios-world, so perhaps if we knew what you were ultimately trying to do, we could suggest other ways to do the same thing? :)
