Thank you so much for all of the replies.  I still really haven't decided what
to do.  I did look at a space for rent yesterday and am really considering it.
The problem is that the salon has 3 owners.  One of them (the one that I report
to) has been pretty good about most things.  The other two are the problems.
When Patty (the owner I report to) wants to change things to make it better for
me, the other two won't let her.  I told her I felt like the other owners
didn't want me there and she didn't disagree.  The other thing is that Patty
has a huge family and is a well known person in our small town, as well as one
of the cosmos (I really like her) and I can't afford to make them mad.  I know
the other two owners and hairdressers will talk bad about me.  Can't help
that.  I just don't want to cut my own throat by making Patty and the other
hairdresser upset.  This week will be a test though.  I brought in a new
manicure station that is
much bigger than the other one.  They can't just shove my stuff in the corner
anymore, well they can it will just take up more space.  I will let you all
know what I decide.  I'm getting more and more stressed though.  Working full
time during the day and fighting with that crap at night gets old fast.  The
other reason for not jumping ship and going totally on my own is the day job -
I can only work nights and weekends.  I need to make a decision - that will
probably relieve most of the stress there!
Again, thanks!

What did you decide to do, I may have missed that post ?

You may look into your state laws also, in Florida the law is very plain, about
how much space is given by law per tech.  And trust me it is not a 4 X 4 space!

Personally I have no idea why you are staying there.  Rent or no rent
reduction.
You need to re evaluate what you truly think of yourself and your chosen
profession and then, have a heart to heart w/ the owner ( one on one).
Invite them to lunch. Then say this is what I need etc etc, put it in writing,
have a contract ready and ask them right then.. to consider it.

You will feel better when you are truly one of the "girls", rather than the mop
in the corner!

Yes, I have asked for one a couple of different times and was put off.  I just
keep making excuses for them because they have lowered my rent for the first
six months.  I still don't have a "permanent" place.  I have to roll my table
around to get electricity and have no where to even display retail items.  I am
brining in another manicure table and they are throwing a fit.  I need more
than 4X4 space to do nails!  I could go on and on.
Thanks for listening!!
