are you talking about on fingers?  if so, i just got a tip from  someone at 
minx........try using a flat iron on the free edge.  make sure  its not too 
hot for the client (ive only tried it on myself and i have longer  nails) 
and kind of roll it around on the ends.  its seemed to work a little  bit, 
tho im not sure a client would be pleased.
 
ive had to turn down some requests for fingers because of this issue, and  
that irritates me.
 
as for the sides, i think you may not be heating and pushing well  enough.  
mke sure that while theyre under the light you go around with your  cuticle 
pusher and really push those sides down.
