I experimented with polish & gels last year and decided it was not a good idea unless you were happy with a shear tint.
We found that to get intensity of color you had to add quite a bit of polish and that compromised the strength of the gel. Also, remember that polish has evaporants in it and it will cause the whole pot you've mixed to thicken as it sits open. They did not keep well in the gel pots I used, either. And you can only mess with the product on the nail for a limited time before it starts to harden. I decided mixing them myself was not worthwhile. Maybe there's some value in this for a specific purpose (perfectly matching that bride's maid dress?) but not for me on a daily basis.
