I would petition if they decided they were going to cut the amount of hours, I only had to do 300 hours and yet i still think that was too little. I know I need more time with a teacher. I wouldn't stay in the business because it wouldn't mean anything if i got my license and they decided that we didnt needit. anyone and everyone would do their own nails and open up a shop that had no requirements and everyone would spread deseases anf fungi to everyone,. It would spread like the black plague, except people wouldn't die (thank god for modern technology.) Then people would complain, but what could they complain about, if there was no one who cared because everyone thought that nail techs dont need education to take care of people and help them maintain a healthy hands and feet. What is the state that does not have requirements for nail techs? I think if we had some strong group, they would be able to regulate everything. people with experience adn know what they are talking about and know what nail techs need and dont need. If we didnt have to go to school for this, people who would try to be nails techs wouldnt know that you should cut a diabetics nails too close or what would ahppen if they cut a person who had a sickness or who was on medications and they bled to death or got gang green because of careless people who thought nails techs dont need schools. I'm sorry my mind went crazy, i tend to over exagerate, but atleast that was a hypathetical situation and that wont ever happen.

As we are all well aware, all but 1 US state requires licensing for nail techs.. almost every other country has zero requirements by law to hang out a sign. Over the years one state or another has tried to kill our licensing requirements - none successfully, while other state have INCREASED required hours. I know many of us would love to see a federally sound program, but that is never going to happen - our constitution is set up so that each state MUST set its own laws. There also was a recent thread on the forums, a tech was concerned about making a purchase in an online site that did not ask for a license. I know also many of you have very strong feelings about this topic.. lets try to not start ant flame wars here :) How would your job and or life be different if licensing was not required or required if it is not now? There would be a lot of BAD nails out there, my PERSONAL opinion... Even with licenses there are a lot of BAD nails out there...... Consumer's have the ability to file claims with the state because of licensing, what would they do if there was no requirements for licensing? Who would the consumer go to to complain? Who would over see sanitation, health issues? NO ONE!!!!!!! Would that not be a cluster poop!!!! How would you learn perform services properly if there was no accredited schools though the state or government? WOW don't even want to think about this one..... Being an instructor, this scares the crap out of me!!!! Would you stay in the industry if there was no licensing? Not sure on this one, my head says NO but my heart says MAYBE, depends on the situations... Would you pay more for your license if you thought your state was going to cut licensing? YES, I would pay what ever was needed if truley devoted to making this situation better.. Would you actively petition your state if they were considering dropping licensing requirements? YES YES YES they would get sick of seeing/hearing from me..... Do you think the industry can be self-regulated? Wouldn't that be nice... Maybe, depends who. Someone like you, Elaine Watson, Vicki Peters, etc.. running it, no problem..
