How would your job and or life be different if licensing was not required or
required if it is not now?

Missouri has required licensing since before my career started, 23 years ago.
If licensing were suddenly not required it would not affect my job at this
point. Clients could buy what they want from the supply house, but, they still
could not do my quality of work. Just like people who go to
Sally's now and get a gel or acrylic kit and try to "do it themselves". I do
not retail but if I did a loss of licensing would kill any salon retail
business.

Consumer's have the ability to file claims with the state because of licensing,
what would they do if there was no requirements for licensing? Who would the
consumer go to to complain? Who would over see sanitation, health issues?

Consumers would only be able to file complaints with the better business bureau
against the salon or file a liability claim with the courts. The FDA would
still have regulation over the use of any currently regulated products.

How would you learn perform services properly if there was no accredited
schools though the state or government?

Maybe trade schools would keep offering training, but odds are not. Students
would not be willing to pay for the education if a certificate from the cosmo
school will not help them get a job. Manicurists would be trained by the salon
owner or manager, so, their training would be only as good as the trainer.

Would you stay in the industry if there was no licensing?

Yes, because I would stand out even more from everyone else in my area than I
already do because of my professionalism and expertise which will appear even
greater compared to the competition. I love being graded on a curve, I always
rock the curve!

Would you pay more for your license if you thought your state was going to cut
licensing?

Yes, I think that licensing is important. The quality of nail care will go way
down if licensing is dropped. If that happens, NSS will no longer be
"non-standard",it would become the standard.

Would you actively petition your state if they were considering dropping
licensing requirements?

I am too lazy to spearhead a campaign, but, I would help and support someone
else who wanted to take the lead. I'd write letters and get others to write
letters.

Do you think the industry can be self-regulated?

It would be nice if the industry as a whole set up national standards that all
manicurists voluntarily abided by, and consumers would only go to manicurists
who had the "National Certificate".

Not going to happen. No, the industry can not be self regulated. People do not
follow the laws that licensed states already have under threat of legal action.
What would happen if there were no worries about state interference in how they
run their business? NSS salons would become the standard for the industry.
