Holly--
I am having the same problem.  The gel is leveling and filling in before I am 
finished drawing my design on one finger.  Are you wiping the tacky layer off 
of 
the first color before you apply the second?  I am not using Shellac though, I 
am using Star Eco.  I will have to try it with the YN Mani Q color and see 
if it works with that.
