I do not wipe between layers. There are a couple things that help; 1- thin layers, if the layer you are drawing in is a smidge thick the design closes faster than you can draw in it 2- draw in bits and wipe your tool, so if I were drawing a square I would draw two sides, wipe of my tool then draw the other two, this gets rid of the excess polish you are carving out.
