June 14th 
    1671: french claim most of america 
    1791: people start to arrive on the holston river for the start of the
    holston treaty conference today. Governor william blount, forty-one
    chiefs, and 1,200 cherokee warriors will eventually arrive. 
    1846: "bear flag" revolt 
    1866: upon hearing col.carrington's orders to guard the trail which the
    indians have never agreed to, the indians confront the treaty
    commissioners. The commissioners admit that the army has plans to
    open the road. Red cloud chastises the commissioners for pretending to
    bargain for something they plan on taking anyway. Red cloud, and
    many of the others leave fort laramie, in southeastern wyoming, in
    disgust. A few indians will sign the treaty. 
    1866: creek treaty 
    1870: near the republican river, in kansas, elements the seventh cavalry
    have a minor skirmish with "hostiles." The indians escape with only the
    loss of one horse. 
    1877: during their forced march from their old reservation to indian
    territory, the poncas arrive at the otto reservation. Taking pity on the
    poncas, the ottos give them some horses to help carry their people. 
    1879: president hayes, by executive order today, cancels the executive
    order of january 10, 1879. The order also adds 52,000 additional acres
    to the gila river reserve in the pima agency for the pima and maricopa
    tribes of arizona south of phoenix. Gila river same as camp mcdowell
    ???????? 
    1880: today, fort harney, in east-central oregon, is abandoned by the
    military. 
    1954: today, the sandy lake indian reservation council decides to sell
    timber from triobal lands to cover the costs of repairing the community
    pump. 
    1971: chicago ind.vil.occupies nike site
