"Press statement of the Hawaiian Kingdom Government relating to the Limited Power of Attorney conveying partial authority of the Hawaiian Kingdom's Executive Branch of Government to the Swiss Confederation." On April 18, 1998, at a forum on Hawaiian sovereignty sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee, Hawai'i Area Program Committee, the Honorary Swiss Consul to Hawai'i, Niklaus Schweizer admitted to the Regent, pro tem, of the Hawaiian Kingdom, David Keanu Sai, the continued existence of the Treaty between the Hawaiian Kingdom and the Swiss Confederation. As a result of the acknowledged existence of the Hawai'i / Swiss Treaty by the Honorary Swiss Consul, preperations were initiated to re-establish diplomatic relations with Switzerland, as well as other nations possessing treaties with the Hawaiian Kingdom. The Hawaiian Kingdom, having been forced to exist in a state of suspended animation, has, by way of its subjects, diligently maintained a century's long protest against the United States of America's breech of treaty obligations, and the ultimate occupation of the Hawaiian Islands. These protests, which can be traced back to January 17, 1893, stem from the unprovoked and unwarranted landing of United States Marines on Hawaiian soil on January 16, 1893, and their participation in the failed attempt to overthrow the Constitutional Government of the Hawaiian Kingdom. The actions of the United States marines are further amplified by the open and notorious acts of espionage on the part of United States Diplomatic Agents and their documented involvement with the attempted overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom Government. The course of action proposed in the Limited Power of Attorney to the Swiss Confederation, arise as a direct result of the Hawaiian Kingdom's present inability to protect Swiss citizens now residing in the Hawaiian Islands, as mandated in Article VIII of the 1864 Treaty between the Hawaiian Kingdom and Switzerland. Presently, Swiss citizens in the Hawaiian Islands cannot depend upon American law to protect their persons and properties. Copies of the Limited Power of Attorney and other related documents were sent to the Heads of State of Portugal, Russia, England, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway and Sweden, notifying their governments of this diplomatic action between the Hawaiian Kingdom and the Swiss Confederation.
