And now:[EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: From: "Kay Lee" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> THANKSGIVING DAY '99 [AmnestyInternational] NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING The Journey for Justice will join AIM to honor the National Day of Mourning A FAST AT THE CAPITOL AND A FEAST AT THE PRISON! While the capitol is usually a place of fine dining for our representatives, on Thanksgiving it will be a place for fasting. Thanksgiving dinner is usually stark and lonely at the prison, but this year there will be feasting on the lawn. While FLORIDA AIM holds their annual FAST at the capitol, the JOURNEY FOR JUSTICE AT STARKE will share their FEAST for human dignity. On Thanksgiving, November 25th, 1999, Florida AIM will hold their annual National Day of Mourning. The Journey for Justice in Florida will gather at Florida's Starke prison complex to hold vigil for human dignity. To compliment AIM's FAST AT THE CAPITOL, The JOURNEY FOR JUSTICE offers to share our FEAST AT THE PRISON. We will prepare Thanksgiving dinner for the public on the lawn as we stand together to rejoice in each other, even within the walls. It's all about peace and every man's right to be. We mourn for the loss of vision of our leaders and the sense of despair felt by prisoners who are being warehoused instead of rehabilitated. We pray for the enlightenment of the prisoners, the guards, our society and the policy makers, even as we give thanks for our right to express our frustration and desire for peace. If there is any possible way you can offer up even part of your holiday to stand with either Aim at their fast or Starke at our feast, you will be welcomed as part of the solution. You will be blessed for ministering to those who don't have as much to be Thankful for. Members and supporters of Florida AIM will be conducting a sunsrise to sunset fast on the steps of the state capitol as we have since 1990. Many are unaware that Thanksgiving originated with the Gov of Massachussets giving thanks that they were able to massacre nearly 1,000 Pequot and Wampanoag peoples in 1637. While President Abraham Lincoln, who ordered the mass hanging of 38 Dakota patriots, offically declared thanksgiving in this country at the end of the civil war, it appears the Gov of Mass.'s idea and tradition continues. The murders of Lakotas in Mobridge, Sisseton, Rapid City and White Clay remains unsolved. The Micmaq, and Passamaquoddy people face the threat of losing their lives for simply fishing and hunting. Oneida and Seminole Nations have come under attack for excersing their sovereign rights. The lands of the Western Shoshone and Dine remain under threat. Nuclear waste and toxic waste remain to be dumped on Indian land.... Indian people can't even rest in peace and the judge's dismissal of the Robert Many Horses case shows killing an Indian remains less of a crime than killing a Moose out of season. In 1970 AIM held the first National Day of Mourning. Florida AIM has held one since 1986 and since 1990 at the steps of the state capitol. We will do so to honor the ones who have gone before, we will so to honor the ones here now and the ones yet to come. We ask all who can to join us in our sunrise to sunset fast at the steps of the State Capitol in a Day of Mourning.
