I'm a fan of direct drive myself. My advice is to ditch the 74141s and
use a modern solution. Supertex makes a HV shift register, or you can
use the old 74HC595 and either MPSA42 transistors or octal transistor
arrays.

I've used the older MAX771 with success in quite a few clocks. These
days you can buy ready-made DC-DC converter modules from several
members here for about what it would cost you to build one yourself.
You might just pick up one of those modules, slap it in your design
and be done with it.
