Why almost everybody concentrates on classic thermionic valves? Trochotrons, dekatrons, including those which can directly drive nixies or even humble trigger tubes look much more tempting to me. Flip-flops built from triodes are probably a tad faster but for clock application it doesn't seem to be necessary. Elimination or limitation of the number of thermionic valves lowers power consumption what actually may make such a clock useful, not only a curiosity switched on for special occasions. Marcin
