Here's the project I've been contemplating:

A countdown-to-retirement clock.

My office is already littered with homebrew clocks, but this one would 
count down days, hours, minutes, and seconds. I'd need 10 digits. 12 if I 
did years, months, etc.... I haven't thought it thru but maybe just 
counting down by days would be sufficient - in that case I only need 4 
digits. In any case it will be a great conversation piece and might keep me 
motivated at work.
