I think there are better tubes for a thermometer. There is no symbol tube with same dimensions as IN-18, and a thermometer looks way better when there is a +/- sign - you immidiately know that you're looking at a thermometer, not a clock. I would suggest using Z566Ms (or other 30mm tube with B13B socket), as they have a symbol counterpart. Best choice symbolwise would be IN-14, as there are both +/- symbol tube and °C tube with same envelope. The digits are way smaller and don't look as nice as the bigger tubes (inverted 2 instead of 5, too).
Also, IN-18s are pretty expensive. I think that if someone has some of those and wants to make a device to sell, a clock will be easier to sell (and for better money, probably). I think that if you want a thermometer with big tubes, you have to do it yourself. BTW. I was planning to make an LC-531 + LL-561 thermometer, which would utilize Δ symbol to show difference between outside and inside temperature. What do you think about that idea?
