hi, first time poster here. as far as i know the only way to balance the board would be to install output transformers on the direct outs of every channel. from what i've come to learn about neoteks, the fact that it is unbalanced is what helps create the "neotek sound". neoteks are transformerless, its something neoteks are known for. less stuff in the way that could possibly alter the sound. i have a 26 channel series 1E that was custom made in '79 for the lincoln center, it was used for radio and tv broadcast and is totally balanced including the line inputs. it also had a lot of other custom mods and additions. im currently in the process of un-modding the board to bring it back to a plain old neotek recording console. i've already removed the line input transformers and am planning on removing the output transformers. that being said, i really dont notice a difference in sound between mine and my friends series 1E. they both distinctly have the neotek sound. his is unbalanced and he has no problems with that. i would personally leave it unbalanced.
