To anyone who may be interested:another recent and pretty stellar example of the neotek console at workis the the new Jarvis Cocker record "Further Complications". If you arenot familiar: Jarvis Cocker was one of the main guys behind the British rock band "Pulp". If you have never heard of Pulp, thats ok, but at one timethey were supposedly the third biggest non classic rock band to everexist out of England, right behind the Clash and the Smiths. Im notBritish, and Ive only been their once, but my girlfriend has a pretty unhealthy obsession with British pop, so Im constantly being bombarded.Personally these days, I mostly enjoy the comfort of Wes Montgomery,Jimmy Smith, or a good Motown record, but as far as all time best Neotek records go, my vote is for Pauls Boutique by the Beasty Boys. This Jarvis guy must have been pretty sharp because he hauled his assout the Chicago and did the whole thing top to bottom with Steve Albiniin their main studio with the big Elite, and Albini even assisted in mastering.To top it off, the songs are pretty solid, and most importantly it was done to tape.Check it out if you like. -Kris P.S. I think they show that the Neotek "sound' is really almost a lack of a sound...just transparency, which makes for some very intimate sounding recordings. I'd love to hear what you think.
