I love Molex connectors, for washing machines but not keen in audio gear.

You can try to re-solder all the connectors, but it really isn't all
that much more effort to just replace them all. That kills the first
two issues at once.
There are different areas where the back plane will flex when you try
to insert or tighten the cards..............from memory, the worst
area was nearest the master section, but that could vary console to
console. What you want to do is get on your back with good lighting
underneath and have someone press down from above. Work your way from
one end to the other and see if you can find the areas where movement
occurs. Depending on how much and where, you may be able to brace
things to improve this. Watch particularly the areas where any two
back plane section boards meet; these seem to be problematic.
I'd start with replacing all the connectors, if you can't do that
now, re-solder them all; BTW, a good way to find bad solder joints is
to use the same process of finding back plane flex. Good luck!

i'm feeding the line in with the multitrack output, and as i bring up
the fader (and the input gain) i get weak, fuzzy signal... until i
jam the gain way up there (very quickly) and the channel then "comes
alive" so to speak. i can then bring it back down to a sensible level
and all is OK.
what problem is this behavior indicative of? bad connection to the
motherboard? or a component problem in the line in circuit? at the
electrical level, how is a dodgy connection "made OK" (in a sense) by
pumping a greater voltage through it?
