One minor correction. The minimal VMWare package (currently workstation 3.2)
which can support running Nessus on a Linux
VM "only" costs $300.  Their higher level packages costs around an order of
magnitude more.  You can download a 30 day trial to see if it meets your
needs.  VMWare can be a great tool (if you can swing the money).
