Folks,

I have been using Kevin's instructions on installing nessus on tow different MAC OS X devices, one is a powerbook g4 and the other is a Xserve, both running 10.2.6. I am having mixed results. The directions are excellent and I would advise anyone searching the archives or thinking about doing this to use them. However I think Kevin is on vacation as he is not answering his emails so I was hoping someone here might have some insight to offer and let it be known up front I am not a *nix guru, nor do I have access to one, but I am trying to learn!

+++Laptop+++
On the laptop I have gotten nessus installed and running such that I scan my loopback address, however the placing of any ip address other than my loopback as the scan target has no effect and nessus does not appear to "do" anything. I read in the mailing list about BFQ but there was nothing in the FAQ on that or nessusd,message. I have tried being wireless and wired neither makes any difference. Perhaps I am missing something so if you have any ideas?

+++Xserve+++
Now this is a bit different than the laptop as I have followed all of Kevins steps and when it comes time to configure and install nessus I get the following error message:

[appleserve01:/nessus/nessus-libraries] root# ./configure
loading cache ./config.cache
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
configure: error: no acceptable cc found in $PATH
[appleserve01:/nessus/nessus-libraries] root#

Now I understand enough to realize that the compiler is missing or at least that is what nessus believes. My path seems correct and everything appears to be installed correctly as well. Any assistance that can be offered would be appreciated.

Alex, I will setup a OS X page, please contact me offline to discuss, thanks.

Tom
