Hi list, just wanna share my opinion on this new licensing stuff.
I completely understand people wanna earn money for their work. I simply think it's sad that the idea of open-source, free, GPLed, whatever doesn't seem to work (see Snort beeing bought by CheckPoint ( http://www.snort.org/about_snort/msg_from_marty/mr_100605.html )). Renaud stated in some posting: "I give away that product to the community. For free. Not GPL != $$$." Well, let's say it this way: Not GPL = others not taking my code = no advantage for them = more people will use my product = more $$$ There is nothing wrong with that but you Tenable guys should admit it. I remeber reading an interview with Renaud where he stated that he wants to keep Nessus open-source because some 75.000 Users show that it works. And that they give important feedback (especially for plug-ins). Well, so mucht to that. The visions of the young of a better world (open-source) fade with aging. I'm getting old, too. ;-) and probably would act the same. Congratulations to Tenable. Hope some bigger player will buy your company (just like Sourcefire (225 million $) and yous will never have to work again. Actually, I'm envious.
