Subject: INTERNATIONALNEWS: Every Parent's Worst Nightmare

Hi everyone,

I usually do not post news articles; this one, however, really grabbed my
attention. For anyone who has ever been involved with children, either as a
parent or educator, this article should really make an impression
(hopefully it will make an impression on all mature adults).

A growing number of British teenagers are posting pictures of themselves on
the web in return for gifts from strangers. David Rowan reports on the
'camgirls'.

Subject: PROJECTS: Postcard Project for 2002-3

A postcard project is being formed for the 2002-2003 school year. We are
in hopes of having every state represented. At this point, the following
states have joined: CA, OK, ME, GA, PA, MO, IL, NJ, TX, NH, OH, TN, WI,
MI, NC, KY, LA, FL, CT, SC, AR, OR, IN, AZ, MD, as well as Canada. Most
of the classes that have joined are from grades Pre-5. This project would
involve sending out postcards to all participants on the list, which could
amount to 70-80.

Subject: PROFDEV: Independent Study Curriculum

There is an independent study program written by Dr. Susan

Johnsen which I've used with gifted and academically advanced
children. It is called Independent Study and is available from Prufrock
Press in Waco, Texas. It includes a teacher guide, a student booklet and a
set of many cards color coded for the different kinds of thinking required
for the projects. Helps kids think, ask questions, then look for answers
and gives direction to independent study projects. Available from Prufrock
Press online at http://www.prufrock.com

Click online shopping, then select "creative thinking", click the next
arrow about twice to come to the Independent Study listing. The cards are
a wonderful resource.
