Project Title: 50 STATES AND MORE Postcard Exchange

Project Begin & End Dates: 8/01/02 to 11/30/02

Project Summary:
I am a primary teacher organizing a postcard exchange with other teachers
across
the U.S.. Our goal is to have one class from each of the 50 states
represented.
-------------------

Project Details
-------------------
Project Level: Basic

Curriculum Area: History and Social Studies, Language

Technologies Used: Email

Full Project Description:

Each teacher is responsible for sending out 49 postcards (one to each of the
other states) with the same message. Postcards typically tell a little about
the area you live in.

Then over the course of 3 months you would receive 49 postcards yourself from
across the country.

This is an easy project, filled with many mini-lesson you can develop, and the
students love it!

We still need a few states represented:
AR, CO, DE, HI, ID, ME, MD, NV, NH, ND, OK, OR, RI, SD, UT, VT, WV, and WY.

If you would like to join our exchange, or simply hear a little more about it
first, please e-mail me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Nonprofits can't automatically expect discounts (unless it's outright
pro bono work), but there is a host of for-profit companies and
nonprofit orgs focusing on the nonprofit niche. Check out
http://www.allianceonline.org and http://www.techsoup.org for
directories of same. You also might check out CompuMentor to see if you
would want to work with a specialized volunteer
(http://www.compumentor.org).

Many of my friends who work in the video production field avoid pro bono
work for nonprofits because the nonprofits are usually more demanding
and less appreciative than their paying clients, and I have heard much
the same from web designers on other lists to which I subscribe.

Does anyone know of any experienced companies that provide website
design, programming and hosting services to nonprofits/public agencies
at a discount? This company would preferably be a nonprofit themselves
and not be geographically limited to where they provide their services.

International Online Projects: U.S. State Department Online Classroom
Projects with Former Soviet Republics

Project Harmony and Connected Minds present the 2002-2003 School
Connectivity Programs Online Collaborative Projects. There are four
different projects for U.S. schools to choose from which promote
multi-cultural awareness, knowledge and perspective. The four project areas
are: Social Justice and Change for the Future; Images and Perceptions;
Conflict and Conflict Resolution; and Introductions and Interdependence.

Information, schedules and applications are available at:
http://www.projectharmony.org/ac2k/rec2002.html

Your students will be involved in an online conference with students from
around the United States and the Former Soviet Union. There are four
different project themes, with each project occurring twice during the
school year, once with Armenia and once with Azerbaijan. You, the American
teacher, are able to choose a project based on the most appropriate theme
for your class or based on the time period which would match your schedule.

What are the benefits of participating in the Project Harmony School
Connectivity Programs online collaborative projects?

* Being a part of these projects allows students and teachers to establish
and develop more a sophisticated international connection which promotes a
greater sense of the global landscape and the ever-changing political and
economic climate
* Projects like this allow schools to utilize growing technology
* Internet projects allow schools and individuals of diverse backgrounds to
be exposed to a multicultural experience.

Please visit the Project website to learn more:
http://www.projectharmony.org/ac2k/rec2002.html

Project Harmony School Connectivity Programs are dedicated to promoting the
educational use of the Internet in a manner that will strengthen democracy,
support civil society and promote cultural understanding in the Republics of
Armenia and Azerbaijan. The School Connectivity Programs are program of the
United States Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
and administered by Project Harmony. Project Harmony's two connectivity
programs: Armenia Connectivity 2000 and Azerbaijan School Connectivity
Program together have over a hundred schools participating in activities
with hundreds of schools in the U.S.

Project Harmony is a non-profit educational and training organization with
16 years of experience working throughout the world. You can read more about
Project Harmony's programs at the website http://www.projectharmony.org.
