Ok, I just updated main to be '5.2.dev'. The idea being that 'dev' indicates
the development of (unreleased) 5.2.

That first sentence was all you needed to say. I was aware of the arguments,
thus the 'half-hearted.' Just checking for any recent converts.

I don't particularly like the idea, but I can see the writing on the wall...
so, ok. If there are pending new features, it's just as easy to create a
x.y+1-new features branch, to be merged back into main once x.y patches has
been created.
