I guess I did miss this mail the first time around. Alex just brought it to my attention with the release of 5.2 getting closer.

To be honest I would have to say no. 5.1 functionality should not change unless a bug fix requires it. Isn't the 5.1.x branch in bugfix mode now? Even though the functionality was there it was untested. The snmptrapd service is a 5.2 addition, no? That is my opinion. Making a 5.1 patch available in the patch repository, on the other hand, might be the way to go. Does anyone else feel differently?

Hi, Coders. As you know, the win32 trap handler was capable of running as a service in the 5.1.2 release. That capability was not provided the "register" and "unregister" menu selections.

The 5.2 release promises to add the ability to register or unregister
with a menu selection. As far as the feature/capability list is
concerned, the menu is the only practical change from 5.1.2 to 5.2
as far as registering the trap handler is concerned.

My question is, would it be appropriate to provide this capability
in future 5.1.x releases ? In other words, is it allright to keep the 5.1 branch and the 5.2 branch in sync with respect to
registering (and un-registering) the trap handler on win32 ?
