1) procmail.
2) I use sender.  It's a well understood header.  For this.

If you can't use sender then where do we stop.  Perhaps the Subject
could contain the date the message was sent as well.
No, we have a billion email headers.
They have purposes.
If you are using a program that's 
 a) designed to promote Exchange over SMTP/POP/IMAP
 b) too pathetic to be able to see email as it was defined in RFC822
then get one that isn't that pathetic.

Off hand, I can think over several FREE GUI ones.  And several
non-free GUIs ones.  And a billion non-GUI ones.

Did I mention procmail and sieve do this at the message store?
