Thanks Robert. I forgot to run the subagent as the same user as the master
agent (root), hence the problem. It's working now.

Regarding the agentx director, it exists under /var/agentx instead of
/var/net-snmp/agentx.

Are you running the subagent as the same user as the master agent (root, by
default)?

Does the file /var/net-snmp/agentx exist?
