Hello...

I want to use CR/LF translation for text files. I have
set everything up as I think I need to: CR/LF is compiled in
with -DCRLF in the CFLAGS list in the afpd Makefile, and
my AppleVolumes.default file has just one line
in it for the user's home directory: ~ options=crlf.

The strange thing is: CR/LF translation works fine when
I copy a file created on the linux side to a
Mac; I can view the file with SimpleText and all the
returns look right. However, if I create a text file on the Mac's
local hard drive and then copy it to the linux machine, it has ugly
^M characters still in it when viewed from linux.

Oddly, if I create the file with SimpleText on the Mac and
save it *initially* on the linux disk, the translation seems to
happen properly; the file looks right when viewed on the Mac
and when viewed from linux.

I have seen a couple of other postings describing this
problem but haven't found an answer. Has anyone
figured out why this happens?
