I have a RedHat 5.2 box set up and two printers attached to the lpt ports.
I have two Macs and some other machines all connected together in a small
computer lab at the grade school where I work. File sharing works fine. I
have a couple questions.

1. I downloaded the Adobe .PPD file for the one printer (an HP LaserJet
5mp) with my Mac directly to the volume I'm sharing on the linux box for my
Mac, but can't find a .PPD for the other (an HP DeskJet 870Cxi). I realize
it's not a postscript printer, but with ghostscript installed, I should be
able to use a compatible .PPD and put it in my papd.conf file, right? What
would be an acceptable .PPD? BTW, I'm running gs 5.50-3 according to my
rpm -q.

2. When trying to print to either printer, both macs (OS 7.5.5) get stuck
on the screen for "Creating Prolog." There are no odd messages in
/var/log/messages. Where else should I look to find out what the heck is
happening? I'm able to see the printers through the chooser, I just have no
luck printing to them. These printers work fine via samba.

Any help given would be greatly appreciated!

The papd.conf file looks like this:

hplj5mp:\
        :pr=lp1:\
        :pd=/usr/share/lib/ppd/HPLJ5MP.PPD:\
hpdj870Cxi:\
        :pr=lp2:\
        :pd=/usr/share/lib/ppd/HPLJ5MP.PPD:\

I know I'm using the same PPD, but that was just an attempt to get things
working. But it does not...

Again, thanks for any help.
