I wouldn't be suprised if some of these can hook to pam. But i have always wanted jabber accounts/pw separate from unix accounts. I am running jabberd2 in production, from pkgsrc, and it is quite stable, with about 50 users on any day. Base OS is up-to-date netbsd-5 i386, as a xen domU. mu-conference is not really stable, but mostly works.
