HA!! SUCCESS!! I upgraded to Netbsd-HEAD, and compiled a new kernel.
I found this in dmesg: [ 1.013220] usb0 at xhci0: USB revision 3.1 [ 1.013220] usb1 at xhci0: USB revision 2.0 USB 3.1 is the USB socket with the red tongue.
