  | Booting from a msdos partititon with a ffsv2 bootloader?

It clearly isn't really a msdos partition (a later message showed
its type was efi actually - which it isn't either) - the type is
just incorrect in the GPT label. (Nothing much in NetBSD cares
about what type the labels say should be there, what matters is
what is really there). Obviously in this case, as the OP is able
(via a different method than he wants to use) to boot NetBSD from
that partition, which means /dev is on it, which I am fairly sure
a FAT partition would not support.
