I think many of these issues can be mitigated through technical solutions. A layered approach using multiple domains, service providers, data centers, and operating systems can help ensure continuity when problems arise. It’s time-consuming, but it improves resilience. At home, I’ve run NetBSD, FreeBSD, Debian, Illumos/Solaris, and several others. Each operating system has its own significant shortcomings in different areas. I’ve seen cases where providers like Hetzner suddenly terminated accounts, or where open-source development teams were unable to resolve specific kernel driver bugs. Ultimately, an application is only as strong as its weakest link.
