Thanks for the suggestion. I spent a lot of time poking around in the bios, and could not
find any way to enable legacy boot. Did some Internet searching and found an HP support
thread indicating that they had removed support for legacy booting for "security
reasons". :-(

However, trying again with the asterisk did not produce any better results. :-(

See if you can boot the NetBSD kernel using GRUB2. You don't need to install
Linux on the same disk. Even a live image of a distro will do if you can add a
GRUB config. entry like:

```
menuentry 'NetBSD DIAG' --class netbsd --class bsd --class os
$menuentry_id_option 'netbsd-diag' {
        search --fs-uuid 65b9cab479e274bc --hint hd0,gpt10 --set root
        insmod ufs
        set gfxpayload=1920x1200
#       set root=(hd0,gpt10)
#       knetbsd /netbsd --root=dk9
        knetbsd /netbsd
        boot
}
```

Just change the FS UUID and partition names to suit.

One other thing: does reducing (or adding) RAM get it booting? Does removing
8GB work, for instance?
