Hardly true.  I work for a company that forces me to use MS Outlook
and it is a trivial setting to send mail in plain text.  People don't
because its easier to leave it be.

This is a technical list.  A large number of subscribers probably use
TEXT based email applications (Elm, Pine and Mutt come to mind)
therefore out of courtesy to them, and to the digest readers, it is
not too hard to send in ascii.  After all, they might even know the
answer to your question.

Personally, I could care.  All the email apps I use just remove html
formatting, yes even outlook and I have to admit, I greatly prefer to
see my mail without the pretty pictures and fonts.
