The new super administrator will have to be some unqualified person like the building supervisor who is seen to be worth in excess of £5000pa more than an ICT Technician 2 from whom some schools expect a degree.

A new super administrator will have the ability to install software as he/she sees fit. It appears that a few schools maybe piloting the CC3 network this month. Is your school involved? If LST, SP2 and the HD convergence does what it's supposed to, life should become a lot more bearable on the Managed Side! I was talking to a guy from Northgate who suggested that machine rebuilds would be taking place from September onwards. Looks like September's going to be a busy time for Northgate since they're also supposed to be starting the Primary school installations that month too. I wouldn't be surprised then if there's some slippage in Northgate engineers getting around the post-primary schools. Also that the computers will get Service Pack 2 installed and we can say goodbye to local mode. Local mode is to be replaced by an administration user (whose details are to be passed on to the authorised users). This will allow the installation of your own software. Google Earth for example. This means no more two gigabyte limit but also a visit from your friendly Northgate technician who will have to rebuild each C2K computer (again hopefully over the summer). I expect the tools are only for authorised users but I do not know for sure. If you know more about the new tools or have heard of any other interesting C2K news please post the details to Netman.
