I have been following this thread from a distance and trying to get my
personal views in order. Anyway in order or not here is what I think:
It seems that just talking about "security" in a general sense doesn't
really make sense-- I think it is acknowledged that if someone has access to
your physical premises ( read your LAN, your telephone equipment, a computer
or whatever, the telephone room of the building you are in) that there is
potential for interception of communications, unless those communications
are encrypted or scrambled in some way --even then with some effort most
communications could be intercepted and interpreted.
I am think that the real question should be: are unencrypted NetMeeting
communications more or less secure than other similar communications. Since
the only real comparison probably is in telephone communication my ranking
would make NetMeeting calls:
1) equally as secure as regular telephone calls
2) more secure than analog cell phone calls
3) digital cell phones -- not sure but since most calls would not be digital
end to end my guess is that this is similar to regular telephone
I think it would be useful to have a discussion about security of NM calls
in this context.
My take would be then -- don't say anything in a NetMeeting call that you
wouldn't say in a normal telephone message.
