Concerning a free gateway, we currently have one. You just need to sign up
for it so we can track the usage as to whom is making the calls.
Our gateways and gatekeepers are Cisco equipment, and we have our own
special switches. We pushed Cisco to get the g.723.1 in their ios, and to
get netmeeting to work with their gatekeepers.
If someone has an actual phone number from our network, you can call that
person through the system by dialing their number and not dialing a 1. IT
is the same as if you called over a regular phone line.

Subject: RE: [NetMeeting] Using H.323 gateway
ok,
heavy questions...
take a look at a few manufacture websites (like radvision, videoserver,
efusion, etc...)
the thing a gateway does is pretty simple:
your netmeeting sets up a H.323 connection with the gateway, the gateway
sets up a connection to another network (like ISDN, PSTN, GSM etc..) In most
of the cases this device should also do the transcoding of the protocols.
To configure this in netmeeting:
2 ways,
1. set the ip address of the gateway and place the call using gateway (you
would type in the telephone number)
2. download 'a speeddial' from the network in the form of a 'push to talk'
button
Currently you will not find any 'free' gateways on the network (or not many)
because they're connected to the switched network and somebody has to pay
the ticks anyway.
