I think that pretty well eliminates direct sound - I wouldn't bother trying
anything else.
I would look at the audio mixer -- make sure it is configured with only the
mic in the record mix. It may be that the drivers for the sound card do not
correctly implement full duplex.
Another sound card or later drivers might solve that.
