I had video freezing problems with standard connections. Maybe what I
learned is applicable to wireless? I have two ideas: 1) reinstall
Netmeeting; 2) get a faster CPU. Also, regarding the modem speeds, isn't 28k
the minimum?
First of all, the video freezing problem was fixed by reinstalling
Netmeeting. As it turns out (but this probably isn't the case with you), the
guy who "installed" Netmeeting on the two computers we were having problems
with didn't install it at all--instead, he had copied it from a machine that
had it installed. He copied it to a zip disc, and then pasted it into the
new computer. So it was never installed. Once I deleted it and then
_installed_ it, it worked fine. Wish I had know about his method earlier. I
spent a lot of time trying to "fix" netmeeting, the video card, etc. So
reinstalling is the first thing I'd try, just to make sure. Also,
reinstalling is good for another reason: apparently, it helps if Netmeeting
is installed AFTER the video card, for example, if you had netmeeting
already and then installed a new video card: then reinstall netmeeting.
Second, think about getting faster processors than 166 Mhz. Netmeeting
video, I was told, freezes if the processor is worked to over 80% capacity.
This appears to be true because on my home computer (which has a 200 Mhz AMD
K6), Nemtmeeting does indeed freez when the processor works at 100%. I
haven't seen it work at 80 or 90%, etc., so I don't know about those
figures. But at 100%, yes it does immediately freeze. (You can check this,
if you're using Windows, by going to accessories and starting up the System
monitor, which tracks processor usage.) So if at home I had a faster
processor, like the Pentium 500 Mhz processors on the lab computers, then
I'm thinking that I wouldn't have any problem with Netmeeting freezing on my
home computer. So I'm about to upgrade.
Good luck,
Mitch
