Hi Sangeetha, Broadly speaking HSRP, VRRP, CARP, Digital's protocol for virtual router clusters, all belong to the same category. Cisco claims the draft of the protocol and not a broad patent on "any kind of clustering mechanism". Hence the OpenBSD folks could cleverly re-write the mechanism with many crucial differences in the protocol operation and headers. Moreover, they have added cryptography and increased reliabiliy.
We could follow something similar in Solaris and add new state-of-the-art features too. I only suggested vrrpd caus, it's a fast and easy way to adopt for personal non-commercial use. Compared to the Sun Cluster, there isn't any particular area that vrrpd can solve better or does not solve. The choices are in the easier understanding, freedom to modify code, costing, easier setup (no quorum disks), and other, should I say "ergonomic" factors. - Timothy Noel This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ networking-discuss mailing list [email protected]
